Myriame Gabay and Bill Stewart - September 19 – October 13, 2015
Medium: Encaustic, Wax and Sculpture
Reception: 6 - 8 PM Saturday, September 19, 2015
A new dual exhibition will be opening on September 19 at the Kariton Art Gallery and Boutique. From September 19 to October 13, 2015, this exhibit will feature work by sculptor, Bill Stewart, and encaustic painter, Myriame Gabay.
The "Encausticus" portion of the title is the Latin derivative of the word “encaustic” translated as “to engrave,” which is one of the mediums Myriame Sarah Gabay works with in creating her contemporary abstract paintings. Similarly, "Coalesco," also from Latin descent, has a number of English meanings with "root" being the primary translation and is literally represented in Bill Stewart's work.
Inspired by the beautiful Northwest, Myriame Sarah Gabay is an encaustic, cold wax and oil artist. Myriame brings together her love of art and nature with the intention of connecting the observer to the essence of nature. In view of delight, Myriame also creates whimsical illustrations. Her motive is to awaken the playfulness in each and every one of you – a sweet reminder to take life less seriously.
Bill Stewart is an organic sculptor who creates his natural artwork with tree roots. Starting from a seed, he raises the trees and manipulates its roots to tightly grip a rock. Bill sees his work as an embodiment of nourishment and solidity, questioning the origins and foundations of life’s many facets – both personal and in the world at large.
The opening reception for “Coalesco and Encausticus” will be held on September 19 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM p.m.
